Dear parents and students, Greetings to you all. I am overwhelmed by the responses that I have received for my letter. This just reinforces my belief to communicate with you all, using this medium. The coming two or three months are crucial for both parents and students as the career defining decisions are being made in this period of time. In the last letter, I shared my views on parenting during exam preparations. In this month’s letter, I shall talk to you regarding career options. There are hundreds of career options out there. How do you make a career choice when you don’t really know what you want to do? Does it seem like an insurmountable task? It’s not. Yes, you will have to put some time and energy into making your decision, but your effort will be well worth it in the end. Follow these steps to make a good career choice. Assess Yourself Before you can make a career choice you have to learn about yourself. Your values, interests and skills, in combination with certain personality traits, will make some careers suitable for you and some particularly inappropriate. You can use self assessment tools, often called career tests, to gather this information and, subsequently, to generate a list of occupations that are deemed appropriate. With the spurt in demand for youngsters equipped with specialized skill sets, you can get maximum advantage of a professional course, if you choose the right one. Taking cognizance of the situation, private and government educational institutes are offering professional courses across categories to make this young workforce immediately employable. Today, one can find institutes offering some or the other professional course in all big and small localities of metropolitan cities. With so many choices and professional courses available today, sometimes it becomes difficult for students to choose the right professional course that could cater to their career aspirations. Sometimes, students just follow the herd mentality and take up a course which is popular or which their friends have opted for, even if that course is unfit for their temperament or their interest. It is important to choose the right professional course that suits your personality, your dreams and also makes you eligible for the right job opportunities in the market. Dear parents and students, I do understand the enormity of wrong decision making. Weigh your options carefully before arriving at the decision. I am also very glad to inform you all that we are celebrating our 3rd Graduation Day Function on 26th of April, 2013 that is on Friday and we are indeed very privileged that Former President Of India, Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam has consented to grace the occasion. We are very eagerly looking forward to the mega event. I would like to express my heartfelt wishes to all the graduates for their future. Sri A.C Shanmugam Chairman
